    Thank you for bringing up this important topic. While we re-present sacrifice of Christ at the altar at the Mass we do so in a bloodless manner. Unless we grew up near a slaughterhouse and did some slaughtering on a farm, most of us cannot comprehend what is involved and how much blood is present.

    I can only imagine the faces of the followers of St John the Baptist when he proclaimed: Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

    They understood the reference and would likely be quite shocked.
