From Webster’s New World College Dictionary, 3rd. Ed.:
Hate: 1 to have strong dislike or ill will for; loathe; despise 2 to dislike or wish to avoid; shrink from…..
According to this: “The Southern Poverty Law Center counted 939 active hate groups in the United States in 2013.”
Among others, there are categories for Neo-Nazi groups, white supremacists, anti-Muslim groups (but no anti-Christian groups, because [surprise!] no one hates Christians), Holocaust deniers, anti-LGBT, and “Radical Traditional Catholicism”.
The SPLC states that “Only organizations and their chapters known to be active during 2013 are included. All hate groups have beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics.” Included in SPLC’s list of “hate groups” are:
The Ruth Institute
The Pacific Justice Institute
The Family Research Council (Dr. James Dobson)
Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM)
American College of Pediatricians
Westboro Baptist Church
Be warned: for the purposes of defining what constitutes a “hate group”, to the SPLC and the people behind it, there’s no distinction between the Westboro Baptist Church and the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute.
