We are the Church Militant, and incidentally Father Rick Heilman has a website called churchmilitant.com, where you can find some excellent weapons — er, tools — to assist you in your mission in the field.
The first tool I can recommend is one of his books, entitled The Church Militant Field Manual, which I read on a pilgrimage last year. I found some of the suggestions on forming an army of “prayer warriors” to be very helpful. These prayer warriors can assist us in many ways, not the least of which is the work of spiritual mercy of gaining indulgences for the souls in Purgatory.
The second tool is really a weapon, in the right hands. St. Padre Pio would say, “Bring me my weapon” — what he meant was “Bring me my rosary“. Father’s website offers a “combat rosary“, modeled after government issue. Strong and durable, available in two finishes, and includes a St. Benedict medal. I have a few different rosaries, and keep this one in my pocket most of the time, because it’s sturdy enough that I don’t need to worry about it getting tangled or broken and also reasonably inexpensive so that it wouldn’t be the end of the world to have to replace it, although I’d have to figure out how to get it re-blessed.
St. Padre Pio, ora pro nobis.
