Some of you may be aware (from the incessant plugging at the bottom of just about every blog entry that I’ve posted since August 1) that I applied to attend this year’s “Beer Camp” at Sierra Nevada in Chico, California.
Well, voting was SUPPOSED to end on September 30, but yesterday I received an e-mail from Sierra Nevada indicating that “Because of initial issues with www.sierrabeercamp.com we have decided to extend the contest (voting and deadline for entries) to OCTOBER 15th.”
The bottom line is, I don’t have the heart to continue to ask people to vote, when I’ve been telling everyone for nearly two months that the contest would end September 30. I received over 1,000 real, honest votes. I think, looking at the vote count, and the way that the votes for many of the entrants continues to climb at an almost exponential rate, that it is time to say that the contest is over for me (at least the voting part; Sierra Nevada also selects 10 people to attend, in addition to the top 10 voted entries; please pray for me to be invited!).
People have been so incredibly supportive. I’ve received e-mails from people I’ve never met, offering their support. Really awesome Catholic bloggers (who high hold in high esteem) have given me space on their respective blogs to promote my entry. I’ve seen friends and family go to bat for me (on social media, by e-mail, in person) to support my entry. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone!
I cannot tell you what it’s meant to me to have received such support. I want to thank each of you personally. I wish I could send you each a beer (sadly, homebrewers are not legally permitted to ship beer). But, here’s what I can do:
I’m in the business of dispensing orthodox Catholic joy. Saturday, October 26, 2013, from noon until 6:00 p.m., will be Voter Appreciation Day. ANYONE (provided they are of legal drinking age) who voted for me is invited to come and have a pint of my homebrew, and take a little break on a beautiful autumn day next to the hop vines.
I live in Northern California, north of Sacramento. If you’d like to come and try one of my beers, send me an e-mail at email@example.com and introduce yourself; I’ll respond by sending you my address. I’d love to meet you, and thank you in person.
I’ll also let you know, sometime after winners are announced November 1, whether I’m going to Beer Camp!
